but had a stroke the next day. She was 94 years old and looking forward
to being 95.

Ruth was married to the late John Wilson Dashper on 13th July 1933, until his death (11/4/1974). She listed her occupation as 'Housewife' and had hobbies of ceramics and flowers. She was very interested in the Dashper history, and her son Jack Dashper had previously informed us of her wish to be involved in the last Dashper Family reunions (which she couldn't unfortunately attend). Ruth held the record of being the oldest living Dashper for a number of years.

Obituary: Douglas Raymond Dashper (B:
1928 in Birmingham D: 31/10/2005)
Ray passed away on Monday 31st October 2005 after a
sudden illness and a diagnosis of lung cancer. It has
been a shock to the family and two of his daughters had just
returned from abroad in time to be with him. Ray had been
an inspiration to everyone and at the recent Dashper Family
Reunion we can recall him directing us to the war memorial in Tavistock.
We all thoroughly enjoyed talking to Ray at the reunion, and are very sad to think that was the last time we will ever see him. We saw him as as a happy, peaceful and thoughtful man who was excited to meet all the relations worldwide, and contribute to the global knowledge of our family.
Addition to War Memorial Tavistock: Sapper F Dashper (B: 2/9/1877 D: 19/8/1919)
The death of Frederick Dashper in the First
World War was not previously acknowledged on the War Memorial in the
town center of Tavistock where he had lived. This was noted at
the May 2005 Dashper Family Reunion, in a visit to Tavistock by a small
number of Dashper relations from the organising committee. Sapper F Dashper was
in the Royal Engineers and died aged 41
on Tuesday, 19th August 1919. He was the son
of the late William and Eliza Dashper; husband of Harriett
Grace Dashper, of 46, Crelake Park, Whitchurch Rd., Tavistock. He is remembered
with honour at the Tavistock
New Cemetery, Devon, United Kingdom. Frederick Dashper's
son also died in the second World War.
We are pleased to be able to announce that
after correspondance with the Tavistock Town Council and the immediate
family, the name "F. Dashper" has now been added in
September 2005. The Council are to be thanked for the
addition, and we are pleased that Sapper F Dashper's supreme
sacrifice has finally been acknowledged on the memorial.

he worked as a Sales Office manager until his retirement.

grand and great grandchildren. He lived in Rareham, Hampshire
up until his recent death. We believe Eric was the oldest living
Dashper.
Obituary: David Verrent Salsbury (B: 21/10/1933 D:25/10/2004)
Dave was one of the founding members of our Dashper Committee, and we owe him for his ability to do investigative research and to his uncanny knack of ferritting out information and finding data. Many of the Dashper Xfiles are testimony to this. Dave's Dashper Database on the Ancestor Search, and many of the genealogical searches that each of us have benefitted from, were the result of his keen genealogical abilities.
Many of our Dashper Committe members had never actually met Dave, but remember him in these short tributes, and in these words Dave . . . we salute you and will miss you:
"I am stunned at the moment and feel a great loss although I have never met Dave. I was so looking forward to sharing a drink of Newfie Screech with him as I had promised. I am sure Judith and Chris (other committee members) are most affected by this sad news as they both have spent time visiting with Dave and sharing many laughs together. Cancer is a awful disease as almost every family has witnessed and I send my deepest sympathies to Dave's family. He will be with us in spirit and our memories for a very long time." (Linda Etty: Canada)
"I can remember Dave for all the qualities mentioned, and also his joke emails that he used to send me. In particular the ones that he knew I would not understand . . . just to tease me. Lovely chap. Like you I never met him." (Chris Jones: UK)
"Although I never met Dave face to face, we all felt quite close to him via the internet from our first contact, because of his wonderful sense of humour, his selflessness and his dedication to Dashper research. Dave sent me a tape of his barbershop chorus which I most enjoyed. One of the songs 'From the first hello' must have been his favourite as it was mine when I sang barbershop. I recall the poignant line 'From the first hello to the last good-bye . . .' and think of Dave. (Gloria Beek: Canada/Florida)
Dave's special T-shirt "Not All There" awarded by Radio Devon for actions too secret to reveal on internet!

Marriage: Mark Gilbert Dashper
and Evelyn Whitley (M: 3/7/2004)
Lyn
and Mark Dashper at Christs Church Warkworth,
Mark and Lyn Dashper with Julian
Dashper
Mark
and Lyn were married in a beautiful ceremony at Christ Church in Warkworth,
New Zealand on Saturday 3rd July, 2004. Mark’s
brother Julian Dashper was a best man along with Rudy
Whitehead-Lopez, and over three generations of Dashpers
were involved in the ceremony, which also featured original
music specially composed, and live performances from three groups
of musicians. Bridesmaids were Waimarie Dashper
and Julia Lockwood, and the register was signed by parents Richard
and Madeleine Dashper, and Leslie Clark. The couple were
met at the church by a stretch limousine, where they treated the
children with a luxurious ride before returning to the reception at
the bride and groom’s new home. Mark and Lyn celebrated their honeymoon
in the picturesque Bay of Islands over the next week. The couple actually met over 46 years ago as
children, and both families have had regular contact and friendship
over the years. Many have remarked that the wedding was a fairytale
come true, and their respective children give them a ready-made family.
Obituary: Vera Dashper (B: 25/6/1911 D: 20/5/2004)
We are
all sad to hear of the death of Vera Dashper, who died
on 20th May 2004.
She almost made it to her 94th
birthday, and her end was very peaceful with family around her. She was
the last Dashper of her family, and she was a descendant of the William
and Agnes Dashper line. Her children carry the name Burton (the name of
her first husband). She had recently moved from Plymouth to be nearer to
her daughter Priscilla and her husband, and was only a few miles away from
son Joe and Caroline. She was still living on her own in sheltered accommodation,
a great feat for someone of her age to look after and cook for herself. At the last count she had 5 children, 12 grandchildren,
7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.
Her daughter-in-law
Caroline Burton writes “Mum was quite excited about the
Dashper reunion although she felt she could not travel back
to Plymouth for it. She did hope to see someone of her extended
Dashper family sometime during your visit.”

Obituary: Judith C Dashper ( B: 7/3/1948 D: 20/11/2002)
Judith C. Dashper passed away recently
in America at 54 years old from a
ruptured aneurysm at the
base of the brain. She was the daughter
of Hannah and Herbert L Dashper, and is survived by her sister
Leslie Dashper. Judi was married to Stephen
Fox but kept her Dashper name. They did not have any children. The service
was attended by relatives, including her first cousin Jack Dashper and
his mother Esther Ruth Dashper. It was a sad affair but everyone remembered
how full of life Judi was.
Judi was born March 7, 1948 and
died November 20, 2002. She generously donated her organs
and so far we know that her heart has been given to a 52 year
old man and her kidney is in a 48 year old man.
Her enthusiasm and spirit will be truly missed.

Family Reunion: USA descendants of Polly Dashper
The Reynolds/Rohr/Neff reunion will be held this year for the first time in 60 years. This family, many of whom are direct descendants of Polly Dashper through her son Watson Reynolds, will renew and gather new friendships on June 22, 2002 at Jackson's Mill State Park, WVA. This reunion was held on a formal basis throughout the twenties and thirties up to the outbreak of WWII. Now, for the first time since those reunions, these clans will once again gather to celebrate their ancestors. Much of this is the result of reconnecting through the internet and the rediscovering of families. It is expected that a lot of the discussion will centre on the work that is being done on family trees, and many of those discussions will include the surname, and the excellent research work done by Doug Desper.

Award: Andrew Dashper
Awarded the "Brian Cruciano Lineman of the Year" University of Windsor, Lancer Football
A physically dominating specimen,
Andrew Dashper's presence on the field invokes fear into
the hearts of quarterbacks. His ability to penetrate the
offensive line is second to none as is evident by the number
of sacks and assisted sacks Andrew has racked up over his five year
career as a Lancer. It is obvious why the Lancer players, coaches,
and support staff have voted Andrew the Lineman of the Year.
